Born and raised in New Jersey, I embarked on my tattoo journey straight out of high school with an apprenticeship at a local tattoo shop. After a year of honing my skills there, I sought new opportunities and moved to Florida, where I underwent a rigorous “old school” apprenticeship under a new mentor. This intense training laid a solid foundation for my craft, allowing me to work at multiple tattoo shops across various locations. Each experience sharpened my skills and fueled my passion, transforming my dream into a thriving career. I faced uncertainties about success and financial stability, but my unwavering commitment to tattooing drove me forward. With years of industry experience and a relentless drive, I aspired to create a space of my own. Joining forces with close friends who shared my vision, we turned this dream into reality, giving birth to Borrowed Time Tattoo. Our shop, built on persistence and hard work, has become a haven for tattoo enthusiasts seeking top-quality, custom designs.

Hi, I’m Joe Casal. I was born and raised in New York. I started drawing at an early age, drawing inspiration from comic books, cartoons, pop culture, and later, street art (graffiti), and the New York art scene in the 80’s and 90’s. This eventually led to an “old school” tattoo apprenticeship in 1996. I tattooed alongside my mentor until 1998 when we had to part ways. I wound up walking away from tattooing and got a job working as a union elevator constructor in NYC. I built elevators for about 8 years while still tattooing my friends and relatives whenever I could. In 2007, I moved to south Florida and returned to my original passion of art and tattooing full time. I enjoy tattooing in almost any style but I prefer large scale full color pieces focusing on comic book/pop culture subject matter. I’ve also developed a reputation for doing effective cover-ups and reworks. I’m so thrilled to be the newest member of the team at Model Citizen, and I look forward to working with all of my amazing clients to create some spectacular artwork!

Hi I’m Nate 🙂 Born and raised in South Florida, I grew up playing sports and riding skateboards and dirt bikes. I always had a passion for art seeing graffiti In my city and reading comic books so I have been drawing and painting since I was a little kid. When I got older I started airbrushing shirts and helmets for sports teams and doing big scale murals. This just happened to lead into tattooing since it was getting so popular but I’ve wanted to be a tattoo artist since I was a kid. I have a gorgeous wife and two beautiful children. My daughter is two years older than my boy and she is so excited to be a big sister. I have been tattooing non-stop since 2009 now. My style has evolved a lot over the years but what I like to do best is anything realistic, black and white or color doesn’t matter. I still do a lot of graphic artwork and drawing as well as tattooing. I just try to get better everyday and do the artwork that makes me happy and leaves my clients in love with their pieces forever.

When you book an appointment, l am able to devote a period of time around every one of your needs, as well as dedicate time to prep for your appointment prior to you coming in. Whether a custom order needs to be placed, or your jewelry needs to be hand crafted especially to your liking, I will make that happen. I only choose to carry the highest quality materials, meaning non of our jewelry is “cheap” because my clients deserve better than that. Since body jewelry is meant to be worn long term and is not meant to be removed, we don’t carry PVD coated, painted, or plated jewelry. I only provide the finest in 14-18k solid gold, niobium, and ASTM F136 titanium from APP certified suppliers. If you can dream it, I can have it made for you!
